As their name suggests, they place their nests in pavement, along sidewalks, and cracks in or near foundations. Pharaoh ants are yellow or light brown and prefer to nest indoors. They are problematic inside homes, hospitals, schools, restaurants, and other places where food is stored. Carpenter Ants cause thousands of dollars in damage to homes in Massachusetts every year. Carpenter Ants typically prefer to excavate tunnels in wood that is moist or has been wet. While they do not actually eat wood, it is their preferred nesting site, and they will use their large mandibles to excavate chambers into the structural beams of your home.
